Many years ago my aunt wrote a book which Prince Charles happened to read and enjoyed hugely.  He invited her to a few teas/dinner parties at Highgrove and although they got on famously, they were certainly not "bosom buddies". Around 6-7 years ago my aunt was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer which had already spread to her brain. She was given 3m to live and insisted that she wished to be cared for and die at home in her small flat.  During those 3 months, Prince Charles visited her 3 times in secret, with one bodyguard who waited outside and sat in her small bedroom, with a commode alongside him and held her hand, chatting to her for about an hour each time before leaving.  She hugely appreciated this kindness which was not done for show or publicity, only out of friendship. When she passed away, he wrote a very lovely handwritten letter to the family.  Whatever views I had about him before changed after that...
