What is likely to happen is that SNP MPs will support a Miliband Queen's Speech but will then come at him on an issue by issue basis. Miliband and his people are placing too much stock in my opinion on SNP promises to support a Labour government which leads them to assume with their customary smugness that the SNP have boxed themselves in. But the SNP's position does not oblige them to vote for cuts and a new austerity programme, nor to give carte blanche to any other aspect of Labour's neoliberal, Tory-lite agenda. This will place the Labour left onto the horns of a very interesting dilemma as they wrestle to reconcile party loyalty with the gradual realisation that the SNP is actually singing from their songsheet. |
