Murdoch's Scottish title is supporting the SNP for the same reason as his Sun newspaper, like so many fading music and television celebrities, supported New Labour in 1997 - because a landslide is afoot and he wants to be seen to be associated with a winner.  Murdoch is a businessman and it would not be good for his brand to be associated in the public mind with an obsolete product. He will also be assessing how an SNP wipeout in Scotland can best be used to his commercial advantage.  In this respect he is, for once, not setting the agenda but following it.
