The phrase..'Not only is he a cruel creature, but also a manipulative one' can be applied to a great many creatures, mankind being the greatest deserver of this typecasting.

We have had stand-offish cats - we also cats who clearly desire our company, whether fed/watered/spoilt or otherwise.
