I will try to be brief! The vilification of ketones is more to do with the Food and Pharma industries who now have to accept that mitochondrial function and energy levels improve on ketogenic diets. When glucose (insulin releaser) no longer enters blood from the intestine the pattern of fat flow (glucose) into storage is gradually reversed. The liver switches to the breakdown of fat as an energy source. As fasting continues ketones also fuel the muscles, the nervous system and the brain. The same result occurs with the consumption of little or no carbohydrates. Ketones are an efficient fuel that we are designed to burn and they are nonglycating and non damaging to cells. It takes a gradual transition for overweight carbohydrate addicts to adapt to a ketogenic diet as the body is used to using inefficient glucose. I am not diabetic but twice a year I reset my metabolism and it takes 10 days. This is not recommended for uncontrollable Type 1 diabetics but is a benign and desirable plan for type 2 victims. Drink lots of water with lemon juice and eat the peel of the lemon. The tongue will fur as toxins are released and gums will stop bleeding as the starch is eliminated from your body. There will be sustained weight loss and increased energy to outweigh the cravings and the headache. |
