"you need to eliminate carbs and replace them with real food that promotes a state of ketosis.." Bobby I do not want to start an argument but I know from all the medical advice that I have been given that this is not a sensible strategy for someone suffering from type 2 diabetes. When you are asleep the body's metabolism naturally switches into ketosis, and will switch back to glycolysis after a carbohydrate-rich meal. The problem for a type 2 sufferer is that their pancreas is still producing some insulin but not enough. The usual medication encourages the diabetic's pancreas to produce more insulin and convert carbohydrates in the normal way into the glucose that needs to go into the blood stream and around the body. Clearly diabetics need to control their weight and this will probably mean cutting down on all food consumption including carbohydrates. It does not mean eliminating carbs altogether. If you can tell us where your instruction to cut out ALL carbs is coming from we would then be in a much better position to weigh up the pros and cons of your advice. |
