I met with Lorraine from HH and Steve from the Council (the client) at 8.30 this morning. We had a long discussion about what could be done. HH are not allowed to put cones out - the Council has to authorise it. Both Steve and Lorraine pointed out that people tend to just lift the cones out of the way! ( as they did on Sutton Court). HH are very willing but are up against it with commuters. Both Lorraine and Steve agreed the the signage was too small and out of the way, and are thinking of the boards on the pavement like they used to do in the old days. Also Lorraine was thinking of doing it in smaller blocks - eg 2-20 etc. They can also do "lift and shift" where they can move the parked cars without damaging them and move them elsewhere (that would be fun!)So there are other options. They can also do it on a Saturday As a by the by, there is a load of cardboard out on the pavement outside no 2. Lorraine knocked on the door to ask the owner very politely to move it. The owner apparently snapped "it will be gone tomorrow" and slammed the door. Thanks Mate - the cleaners cannot do the pavement where the cardboard is sitting. However an enforcement officer will go tomorrow and if it is not gone there will be a fixed penalty. As a further by the by, we were talking about the house on St Mary's Grove where someone put out a white plastic bag which was ripped open and contents were scattered across the pavement. Lorraine said that Hounslow are now enforcing fixed penalties. So if you see anything like that - report it. I would just add that I called the call centre on Monday afternoon and had a call back from Lorraine within an hour and a half |
