You deserve all of my respect, and more. My last attempt was on the morning of the last but one street party, when I took up a hoe and chiselled away some of the impacted moss and mud previously hidden by cars to beautify the street. It was very hard work, so I sympathise with today's street cleaners, one of whom I had a chat with a couple of weeks ago. As well as the pressure of having to keep to a schedule (yes, there is one and they carry it with them), I gather that the job is made more difficult by persons such as myself parking close to the curb, meaning that the cleaners can't whiz down the gutter and clear it at one go. I gather that the trend towards larger cars, including 4x4s, makes it more difficult too, although I can't remember why. Anyway, not having access to the gutter makes it impossible to clean them, so if it is possible to clear the street (and, as you say, ideally cone it off as well), it should give the HH team a better shot at removing some of the gutter detritus. |
