Surely it's a question of scale as much as anything. £9,000 represents half a year's wages for me and the best part of a year's wages for someone on minumum wage. What sort of society are we living in that makes people comfortable with that level of inequality? (Oh yes, silly me - a capitalist one). The person who bought the watch may have "earned" his £9,000 but no more than the cleaner who has to work for many months to accrue the equivalent and that is total income, not disposable income.
