| Honestly you could say that about anything - why pay £10k for a car when you can a moving vehicle for £1k? Why buy a house in Chiswick for £500k when you could buy one for £150k 15 mins down the road? Why buy a ring made out of gold when silver is just as functional? why buy a new dress when you can get one in a charity shop that will just as easily cover you up and look nice for a fraction of the price? The point is we all make these choices daily but just on varying scales. We all choose things we could have got for cheaper and we all choose our luxuries. My mother spurns jewellery, doesn't own a watch, never buys new clothes, doesn't own a car but will happily pay lots of money for things related to cooking, some of which she could get much cheaper in Argos I'm sure. That's her choice. We all do this whether we like to think so or not. |
