My recollection is that Picturehouse just purchased the low rise building that used to house Ballet Rambert or possibly a long term lease for the site. The taller building to the west of this where most of the screens would be belonged to a subsidiary of London and Bath Estates. A reasonable assumption would be that when planning permission was applied for there was an in principle agreement between the two companies to proceed but a change in circumstances following permission being granted resulted in London and Bath changing their minds. The sale of the plot on the which the Octopus was supposed to be built gave London and Bath the capital to consider their own residential development at the building they own. One ray of hope for the cinema is that the Gateway Tower project at Chiswick Roundabout has not been heard of since it was first revealed. Originally we were told to expect a planning application to be submitted around the end of last year. This has since gone very quiet which could mean that the deal has fallen through. That may in turn mean that London and Bath will revisit the cinema project. |
