I only have experience of one cruise on a large cruise liner and accompanied by a group of friends.  There were so many activities to do that we very rarely found ourselves in our cabin other than to prepare for dinner or sleep. However, friends who are a couple like a quiet afternoon lie-down with the TV and a quiet drink together before dinner.  A balcony is important to them.
