Very sad news about Ms Naysmith. She was indeed a Chiswick institution and something of the old Chiswick that I suspect many new residents will be unable to relate to. I am wondering if I'm alone in questioning the Royal Academy of Music seeking to raise money for themselves in her name? I would like to think this is not a case of opportunism on the part of the RAM, which would be incredibly tasteless to say the lease, but as Ms Naysmith appeared to have fallen out of love with music and indeed traditional institutions such as the RAM, I would be very surprised if this was the cause she would want people donating towards. Additionally, we know that she did not accept charity, and may disapprove of this type of call for donations. I hope I am not being cynical but i question the interest the RAM have shown in this and to her before her untimely death. I will be making a donation in her memory to St Michaels & All Angels, a church she attended and sang at, in addition to St Nicholas Church. |
