Dan, I assume you have tried the rescues and for some reason they didn't think your circumstances were suitable?  If you haven't tried them that should be your first port of call.  There are thousands upon thousands of gorgeous cats and kittens needing homes, very many of which will just be killed if no one comes forward for them.  

Otherwise asking on a page like this can be a good way or there are lots of sites advertising kittens for sale from private homes who for some reason have had an accidental mating - hopefully their cat was too young to spay so escaped and got pregnant rather than that they couldn't be bothered to spay it -  to professional breeders.   Just be very careful if you buy privately that it is not from a 'kitten farm'.
