Sad to say I am not that surprised, I can remember reporting untoward things way, way back, not on this scale I hasten to add, as the service was in house and much more accountable. As for the nasty digs at the TUs, it may be that they or several other people did blow the whistle but if management were involved who the hell was there to listen? There was another occasion when a lot of parking money went missing and the poor whistleblower was trying to tell someone, a manager, who later on was found to have been up to his ears in the scam, and who had the whistleblower suspended and escorted out of the building as if he were the guilty party. He went direct to councillors and then things got moving, eventually the guilty party was caught and got a four year stretch, but it was never determined just how much he had got away with altogether, because of the time that had elapsed. The really awful thing was how the person who had the guts to stand up and be counted was treated. If as much effort was put into investigating as there is in covering arses wouldn't life be grand? |
