They are often large empty buildings, schools, industrial buildings awaiting planning permissions for redevelopment so they get very short notices to leave. Usually a small studio flat is installed. If a building is occupied, potential squatters cannot move in and claim squatters rights and then it can take years and a lot of expenses to get rid of them. |
