Tipping is really a rather bizarre form of bribery.  To me the price quoted should be the price paid so why do we do it.

Last week I hired a minicab to take me and some friends to the Albert Hall.  When booking was told the price would be £20 but on arrival I was asked for £25.  I handed over £30 and there was a hesitation in giving me the change but was then offered a £5 note which I took.  I felt somewhat uncomfortable and a bit peeved and he, no doubt, felt the same.
