"I shall hold off a couple of weeks before cashing in my oyster card" I'd give it a bit longer than that - TfL have managed to create two slightly different contactless systems, and it's wise to understand what the issues are before deciding which one to use. For me, the fact that contactless doesn't work on SWT from Chiswick is a show-stopper, but for someone who regularly uses Oyster PAYG but doesn't use mainline rail services* the weekly cap on contactless that hasn't been added to the Oyster product might sway it. You'd have thought they'd have come up with a more coherent system and some better communications than just shouting 'card clash!' at people, but apparently not - the current state of the project appears to have made things slightly less understandable and convenient for the public than the old 'use Oyster for the cheapest fare' message, which was at least easy to understand. * Presumably there'll be mainline rail services which you can use contactless bankcards today, probably Ealing Broadway to Z1 would count. The barriers at EB must take contactless cards for people using the tube lines, after all. Likewise London Overground will be accept it, being a TfL line. |
