"ie do you have to register your credit card with TFL and then they take you off Oyster?" No, you can use either, although one weird wrinkle is that you can't use one bankcard to pay contactlessly for, say, two people on the same tube journey. While it's perfectly possible to buy two tickets at a ticket machine it'll charge you the substantially higher cash fare, which seems a tad unfair. I suspect you'd be perfectly in order to lend an unregistered Oyster to the second person (for instance someone visiting London who's without both contactless and Oyster) and you use your contactless bankcard, in fact that's one of the benefits of the system, along with enabling some mobile phone users (3, EE and Vodafone, I think, with the right kit) to pay using NFC, which I think may be the best ultimate solution to things like 'card clash' - you don't keep your phone in your wallet, after all. |
