Hmm, even in this day and age I've rarely encountered a fish & chip take-away shop which accepts card payment of any amount, and I've never set foot in a fish & chip shop without cash for that reason. Fish & chip shops seem to be something of an anomaly in that regard, and I must admit I quite like it. The additional eat-in charge I guess is a consequence of how coffee shops and sandwich chains have different prices for eat-in and eat-out. Not something I'm keen on in a fish & chip shop though, very different type of environment and presumably little more than one table and a couple of plastic chairs ?. Or I guess the other possibility is that this particular establishment (not one I know) sometimes attracts 'problem' customers and thus uses the charge as a means of ensuring 'problem' customers don't hang around the shop, but instead cause problems elsewhere !. |
