I don't think it's a generational thing. I swear this is a true exchange at a church (actually Girl Guides in the church hall) jumble sale. My wife was Guide Captain and I got 'roped in'. Middle-aged lady looking totally out of place in 'the scrum' just after to sale opened makes a beeline for the bric-a-brac and is recognised by a couple of dealers who use to frequent the sales locally. She picks up a few ornaments and asks the price. Me: Five pounds seems fair She: Do you take American Express? Me: Sorry cash only (stifling a chuckle). She: I simply don't carry cash, I can pay cash if you deliver. Dealer standing next to her: And will the palace guard be OK with that? She left in a huff and the dealer bought the items at which she was looking. Funny old world. |
