"I think London's reached saturation point"

The population of London now is the same as it was in the 1950s.  It went into decline then and rose again in the 1990s.  The population of inner London now is still over 1.5M less than it was in the 1920s (Chiswick is on the border of inner and outer London)

A big difference is that dwellings back then would have had mainly families or extended families living in them while now, there are lots of singles, couples or house shares with fewer people per dwelling.  This change in how people are living is one of the main things creating the demand for more housing.

The population of London is predicted to keep on increasing.  I've skim read the "London 2050" report produced by the Greater London Authority.  Increased housing requirements can't be met by only developments in greenfield and brownfield land so a key approach will be increasing the density of existing town centres.

It would be naive to think that Chiswick will somehow remain aloof from this.
