Nobody's arguing with the facts, Will, just whether our priorities as a society are right. Back in the fifties Stanley Matthews (who was better than Rooney :-)) was limited to £20 per week because that was the choice made by the powers that be (were?) then -it took Jimmy Hill threatening to go on strike to change it. I don't think that was right and I'm pleased that Trade Unionism changed it. I think most people think the change has gone too far, but it's not easy to control it whilst many of us happily (or not) shell out for Sky Sports etc. The current approach is 'let the market decide without restriction' other than a minimum wage that nobody - certainly not with children - could live decently on. Oh, and use tax credits to subsidise the underpaid to more or less make ends meet. |
