"The politics of envy" is the hackneyed old phrase always trotted out if anyone dares suggest that anyone not a CEO, or equivalent should be paid a decent living wage. And why is it that today we hear that rail fares are going up linked with RPI when most people's wages and pensions are CPI linked because that is the lower of the two? Except for the pensions of M.P.s, RPI linked naturally, don't do as I do, do as I tell you. Wanting some fairness all round isn't treason, it's realistic, and you can't help feeling a hell of a lot of employers are taking advantage of the job situation and deliberately keeping wages low. |
