I'm amazed anyone can drive faster than 20/25 mph on Thames Rd/Strnd on the Green - my car is not wide enough to straddle and clear those square "cushions", they scrape the inner edges of my tyres so I have to drive really slowly over them with one wheel in the gutter and the other over the centre of the "cushion". Obviously I have to wait until I'm sure nothing is coming the other way, no doubt driving the "C.Tractor" driver behind me mad. God help you if one is approaching - they always drive dead centre of the road and straight at you - maybe they are the speeders. I have also seen young male tearaways charging along there.
Can't say I'm a fan of all those traffic islands in Hartington Rd. Overkill in my opinion especially at the eastern end - it's not as though it's a high pedestrian road with hoards trying to cross and those dropped kerb "bobbles" KILL yer feet! When all those islands, lit-up bollard thingies and chichane were installed, some wag put a wonderful notice "Welcome to lunatic alley" or something like that - obviously considered neccessary for our and our cats' safety but made a previously lovely road very ugly. Unfortunately, cats being cats want to cross the road with sometimes very bad outcomes. So sorry about the two cats killed this week and sympathies to the owners. |
