| Consider me the opposite pole to Dailymailman. I have a personal dislike for the anaemic culture that many spend vast amounts of money on. I think of it as Sunday Supplement Syndrome. This befalls a certain type of middle class person (you know, the ones that did okay at university and had a certain degree of support from their also quite well off middle class parents). They end up working in some job that requires they master how to have meetings, create reports, handle a large amount of emails and general be 'professional' whilst also keeping in mind a manageable amount of specialist knowledge. For that they get paid more than someone who spend several years studying for a profesional degree that results in them working long hours, although not because it's just a cultural thing like Syndrome person. Syndrome person suffers from status anxiety, badly. These people are products who consume products. Years of targeting ABC1s has resulted in wonderful consuming machine that are kept in a fairly narrow set of behaviours by a mind field of cognitive dissonance. For example they'll see themselves as green despite their carbon foot print being the size of a couple of African villages (see Lexus hybrid!). It's just prejudice and a small bit of envy from someone who had to start from zilch (rather than 'comfortable'), has worked in advertising and has to work with many of these meat puppets on a regular basis. Ahh, I feel better now. |
