Steve Taylor is an interesting study in the kind of mind that finds it impossible to reconsider a thought once it has entered their head. Whether it is illegal immigrants being responsible for the surge of shoplifting or Joe Biden's mental acuity, there is no shifting him no matter what facts you throw at him. He is the foundation on which cults are built and I have no illusions that anything I ever post will even cause him a scintilla of doubt over his dearly cherished beliefs. He is not alone - I've looked at comments on articles about Jill Biden's book and quite a few have nothing to add other than a blank claim that Joe Biden had dementia when in office. Not all of these post are from bots. It took me a while to find the source of Steve Taylor's quote but it turns out to be from a writer called Kara Kennedy who contributes articles to the Spectator and The Telegraph. She runs a site called The Mom Wars (note the American spelling and the conscious nod to Alex Jones). Her output is categorised by headlines designed to make people cross and her articles are of the no holds barred variety which often stray into no facts considered territory. Setting her sights on Jill Biden is characteristic of her work but I suspect Steve Taylor hasn't actually read the whole article. Although it is a merciless hatchet job on the former first lady and mocks Joe Biden's health issues it makes no mention of dementia. I haven't read the book but all the reviews confirm Jill Biden does attempt to be honest about his capacity to be president. He was undeniably an old man with the issues that brings. He has to get up at night to go to the toilet (I'm several decades younger than him and testify that this is something that all men have to look forward to) and his energy levels were reduced. He was far from an ideal candidate. The passage that is getting the most attention is the debate where Biden undeniably shat the bed. I distinctly remember on the day thinking this is the day when Trump's candidacy finally is over. Having seen Biden cope comfortably with complex questions on policy giving detailed and informed answers in recent interviews, I thought he would wipe the floor with a man who would lose control when the difference in their suitability for the office was made plain to see. The Biden family clearly had the same expectation and Jill Biden says her husband was so terrible that she thought he was having a stroke. Lots of information about Biden's health has been released since he left office and he is clearly not a well man. However, there is no suggestion of dementia in any of these reports or in Jill Biden's book. Of course people will suggest she would cover it up if she could, although that ignores that it would be impossible to hide and that her husband has given many interviews since leaving office which continue to show no sign whatsoever of such a diagnosis and is regularly out and about with his family interacting with members of the public. Trump hates Biden because he beat him fair and square in an election and he never got the chance to even the score. He is up at 3am most mornings rage posting about him at an truly astonishing rate. Joe Biden meanwhile seems to be winning the fight against cancer and spending his remaining years enjoying time in the loving embrace of his family, something that will be denied to Trump because all his progeny hate him
