Steve.  I'm wrong of course and you're right in that many people do own them - but they don't won't or can't actually use them!!!  They are probably mostly older people for whom they are too new and fiddly and constantly changing to get used to using and they are probably kept safely in a drawer.  Deteriorating sight and dexterity and those constantly changing functions on them interfere with what's left of what may have been the smoothly running and routine of their everyday life.  How many people have been given or have bought them and they are not being used or are only being used for a couple of their myriad functions?

Jayne is absolutely wrong about benefits.  The greatest part of the benefit bill is pensions and pensioners benefits. Many vulnerable  pensioners who are in need are still not claiming them and instead of railing against those on benefits those who are so loud and vociferous could better put their energies into helping to patiently solve some of the hurdles they face.
