| I also find it interesting that our No Cycling sign is based on the signs that car drivers have to learn for their driving test and I don't think it is as clear as the European (well a lot of Europe) and American No Cycling sign which I understand has a diagonal line through the cycle on the sign. I don't know how you fix this other than make sure all cyclists pass tests or change the sign. You don't see many blue "Cyclists Dismount" signs despite the No Cycling sign not being clear to those who have had no training or none in the UK. (It isn't just "illegal immigrants" who cycle btw but a lot of visitors and tourists). Where there are blue signs on pavements for "shared path and pedestrian cycling and walking" these are often too high and small for pedestrians who have to concentrate a lot on the state of the pavement as they cross a road and walk along a pavement and/or hidden behind foliage. (I also remember that there used to be road signage across the pavement/shared path somewhere that was too low for cyclists to cycle under.) So signage is just not joined up and thought about enough. |
