| >It also needs some wholesale regulatory redefining of e-bikes as mopeds, requiring registration plates and a driving licence. "Ebikes" that travel under their own power or above 15mph ARE mechanically propelled vehicles in law, they're not ebikes, they are electric motorbikes, and hence require MOT insurance and certification to ride on highways (not that you're going to get any of those for these things). Please don't mix them up with proper e-bikes (electrically assisted pedal cycles or EPCAS) which only assist the rider and are pedal cycles, not ebikes. The insurance I have for my e-bike for example is invalid if I make modifications like adding a throttle, having it pwoer itself along, or removing the cut out of assistance at 15mph. Similar applies to escooters that are not part of an approved hire scheme. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/electrically-assisted-pedal-cycles-eapcs/electrically-assisted-pedal-cycles-eapcs-in-great-britain-information-sheet |
