| Spot on Claire. This topic is about fallen leaves, not litter. There is a group of hardy local people who gather every month by a Chiswick church to clear wind swept litter from our green areas, a task for which we are grateful. The sight of wet Autumn leaves left on our pavements every year for months is a regular sight in Chiswick and is the cause of many broken wrists, arms and facial injuries, the chief victims being our more elderly brethrens. The council claim they care deeply for our health & safety and the speed by which they removed the "offensive" St George flags recently showed they can pull out the stops when necessary. Ok, we all know the action was politically motivated but, as Clair implies, it should be incumbent of the council to show the same vigour in clearing our streets from leaves as soon as they become hazardous. |
