Julian, the delivery drivers are self-employed and although the apps might not like them taking on other orders, there is nothing that they can do to stop them. A restaurant can just ask a delivery rider to take their order from them direct.

I had no idea how high the commissions were until Mark told us so it will obviously be helpful to your favourite places to enquire whether they would prefer you to order direct. Some may choose not to because of the hassle or out of fear of a punitive response from the apps if they are caught.

What Steve is banging on about remains unclear. At least he seems to have acknowledged that Dark Kitchens exist but now appears to be saying that he doesn't order from them because they have an address. He may be in for an unpleasant surprise.

Mark's point that 240 new 'restaurants' operating in the area will have a profound effect on existing businesses is inarguable and this is not lost on people struggling to make a living locally in this industry. If you value what they do just have a conversation with them about how you can help.
