And which line was known as "There and back while the kettle boils"?

Ah, that was the shuttle from Acton Town to South Acton.  Legend has it that the crew (driver and guard in those days) put the kettle on in the Acton Town building, did their run to South Acton and back, by which time the kettle was boiling and they could make and drink the tea before doing it all again, and again ...

The platform at South Acton and the tracks have now disappeared, but the abutments of the bridge across Bollo Lane are still visible, and I think that platform 5 at Acton Town may still be there behind a hoarding.
