Aged 15 and leaving Wolseley Gardens on foot... on my way to the hairdressers at Gunnersbury Station...I decided, at the top of Havard Hill, to divert to the sweet shop in Sutton Lane North opposite the Queens Head pub. Having filled my pockets with goodies I found the rain and storm outside too unfriendly and chose to return home instead of going on for the haircut. Glad I did. The Station alleyway wall (from the old wooden gate at Wellesley Road) had been blow over and the corregated roofing on the platform ripped off. It's a pity that the steep staircase survived. Blimey that was 68 years ago!
