| I really cant get my head round this. So many questions. Has anyone actually thought this through. In x years time when we're all supposed to be driving electric, will there a be a charging point outside every house, or cables hanging over fences? If a house has two, three four flats will there be equivalent number of points. How about a tower block with hundred of apartments? Will there be fights because there arent enough chargers to go round. Someone parks for days and others cant get to charge up, and will traffic wardens issue tickets for overstaying? Will you be towed away because you didnt get up in the middle of the night and move your car? Can the batteries be recycled, and if they can, how much will that cost and who pays what? How many precious resourses will be used up in making millions of batteries. What happens to the grid when everyone gets home from work and turns on the charger? It sounds so impossible to me that I think this could be just step one in getting rid of private car ownership. Ive heard one interesting but totally revolutionary idea. Standardising batteries. Cars have two or more. Petrol stations become docking stations, When one battery drains, your car automatically switches to the other. You drive into the docking station, dock up. It slides out the old one and slips in the new. Gets rid of all the charging points and cables hanging from your bedroom window. |
