Prohibiting 'idling' in stationary traffic can be dangerous, as switching off the engine in most cars also switches off the car's lights and hydraulic assistance for the brakes and steering. So the proposed 'no idling' signs in Horn Lane at the Bollo Lane level crossing are a bit questionable. Obviously keeping the engine running while parked is unnecessary. Tour coaches and chauffeur driven limos seem to be the worst offenders, as their drivers keep their aircon/heating on while waiting for their passengers. |
