Westminster Council are spinning it for political reasons.
The mayor needs to be given more powers to override nimbies in situations like this. For all the talk about the route of CS9 (and I agree with those who say it should be along the A4 as far as Hammersmith), the biggest problem with it is that it stopped at Olympia because Kensington & Chelsea Council wouldn't co-operate.
There are huge numbers of bikes using High Street Kensington, and no provision for them at all - not even any advanced stop lines. That's outrageous. High Street Kensington is a major route used by cyclists to get into London from the West. If Westminster or K&C Council are so short sighted that they can't do something for the greater good, then the mayor has to be given powers to override them. |
