It is to be hoped that the 13% of Democrats who decided not to vote for Biden in the Michigan Primary and wrote-in "uncommitted", in a campaign of protest against US support for Israel and refusal to press for a ceasefire, may convince him to reappraise his strategy vis-a-vis Netanyahu. His continuing support for Israel, in the face of what appears more and more like genocide in Gaza, with the apparent deliberate attempt at starvation of the population (until the token belated gesture of the IDF parachute drops in the past two days), is absolutely unconscionable. If he had stopped sending arms when he first started criticising Netanyahu publicly, the IDF would already be without bombs to drop on Gaza, and Netanyahu would seriously need to think about an urgent ceasefire. As it is, whilst publicly excoriating Netanyahu but doing nothing to rein him in, Biden just looks unbelievably weak. He could yet foist Trump on us all for another four years. Heaven forbid! |
