In the past, the theory behind trickle down economics ( a term originally coined as an ironic joke ) was if you give rich people more money, they will buy more goods made by British Workers in British factories, thus providing more jobs.

The only problem with that being of course, is that most goods are made in China nowadays.Yes China again. So all trickle down does is provide jobs for Chinsese workers. Excepting maybe handmade luxury goods, which trade on their exclusivity in the first place.

So that after already borrowing billions to secretly subsidise energy prices - rather than taxing the windfall
profits of the utiliy companies, Truss is now going to borrow further billions so as to subside top rate taxpayers.

The real joke being of course, that Tuss and Kwarteng really think that Johhny Foreigner isn't keenly taking note of all this.

They'll clearly need to sell debt to finance all this.  But 1% Gilts are clearly are no longer going to hack it. What's going to be needed now is 5% Gilt Edged Junk. Now just think what that will do, to mortgage interest rates, stamp duty cuts nonwithstanding.

The other joke being that Truss was elected leader by precisely the sort of people who will suffer the most from rampant inflation - the very people her predecessor Margaret Thatcher was most concerned to protect.

So never mind just leaving Chiswick...
