I lived on Paxton Road - the one way system only allows access off the A4 and the forced left turn on Burlington means you (usually - there are exceptions) have to exit via Hogarth roundabout as well. This does not make it easier for drivers passing through. It would be a lot easier if access was from Burlington and exited onto the A4. This arrangement is entirely for the residents of Paxton Road to avoid it being a rat run to avoid Hogarth. It could be changed via installation of ANPR cameras with the direction reversed and access from Burlington and exit onto the A4 - that might be more convenient for residents who drive. Another road I lived on is Thornton Avenue. Shutting off the exit / entrance to TGT is entirely for the residents to prevent it being used as a rat run. Both schemes could be argued to disadvantage the residents - they have to make detours to access or exit their roads. However, the benefit of removing the rat runners far outweighs this inconvenience and once they're implemented, no-one really notices. I think the poster is unaware of the purpose and impact of these schemes if he thinks they are there primarily to benefit drivers. But if he really thinks these traffic restrictions are there to benefit drivers then we have a preview of how people will think about the LTNs in 5-10 years - they won't feel they're inconvenienced, they'll believe they are there to help them! |
