Paul, whether you like it or not people are likely to continue driving to the park to walk the dog or go for a run. Both are pastimes which are far more pleasant to do in a green open space than by a busy road and, for most dogs, time off the lead is essential for them to get proper exercise. Gunnersbury Park would be more or less empty if your puritan views were widely held as to get to the park on foot a large proportion of visitor would have to cross the A4/M4 or the North Circular. If parks are only for the fortunate few that can walk to them, why should public money be spent on maintaining them? |
