As things stand, business rates contribute about 15% of local council incomes. The repeated wish in these threads to reduce or abolish them to support High Street shops would only mean tax increases elsewhere. It's not helped by central government taking a slice of business rates and continually changing the basis upon which the split is calculated.
As with several other national chains we've lost from CHR, Gap was in trouble nationally, and I don't think more cyclists would have saved them.
