Lorraine, I think the data is pointing towards cyclists and pedestrians both spending more in local shops than car drivers. https://content.tfl.gov.uk/walking-cycling-economic-benefits-summary-pack.pdf Cyclists might spend less per trip but they make more trips than car drivers. I realise that’s data and not real anecdotal evidence from real people, so I can give you my own proof…. Yesterday after dropping the kids off at school, I was so peeved at the mushy apples from M&S delivered by Ocado, I took David’s advice and cycled up to Natooro on TGT. After I’d been told off for buying off season fruit, I came away £20 lighter with an incredible haul of fresh in season fruit…..which we completely consumed yesterday ( I know - it is good, but pricey!) So I’m going back up this morning in a bit for more! The first trip I couldn’t have done if I wasn’t on a bike for the school run. The second I choose to do by bike because it is quicker and easier than driving and I wouldn’t do the trip at all if I had to do it on foot or car.
