Monkhouse was a one-off. There was a terrific programme on the BBC he presented probably only a few years before he died in which he did a history of comedy with people he knew and worked with from the 50s. Goons, Hancock etc and up to when the programme was made. Intelligent, enlightening and fascinating to learn how hard working and resourceful he was. It's a pity a lot of people just think of him as an oily perm-tanned gameshow host... |
