My lasting memory of seeing a comedian live came in the eighties and I was not looking forward to seeing him. I had to go to a work dinner and Bob Monkhouse was the comedian. I had only seen him on TV and wasn't impressed On the night he came onto the stage with that nights Evening Standard in his pocket. He proceeded to do at least half an hour using stories from the paper. I don't think there was a dry eye in the place as they say. He was hilarious, He then went on to finish his act. I couldn't believe it was the guy I didn't like on TV. Furthermore he didn't swear or use innuendo once and this was at a men only function. I picked up a copy of that nights ES on the way home and found the stories in it that he had used. Pinching his idea for a few years I did a similar thing as my party trick. It is very easy to do, just read things in a slightly different way to that intended. BTW I also watched Dave Allen last night, wonderful to see him again. |
