| Addition to the tawse....there was a hardcore game played in the playground which really toughened one up..it certainly hammered ones back! There were two teams...and they took it in turns to bend over in a long line ..like an enlongated leap frog...nnnnnnnnnnnD .. get it! with the chap at the front having his back to the wall ,..and the first "bender" butting his head against "D"s cupped hands. Then the other team would be the jumpers! The first jumper would say land on the third n and the next jumper either over the top of him onto the fourth n...or he might tuck behind onto the second n. The clinking bodies would all pile up. Anyway you can imagine this long line of benders..looking like a camel train !!..with the threat of a good gymnast about to leapfrog a massive jump to cause the whole line to collapse! Then it was the next teams turn. There was hardly a tennis ball seen in the playground..such was the spectacle of this back crunching game..called ..I believe BUNG THE BARRELL?? Those were the days! |
