There’s also a ‘Weak Bridge’ sign on the central reservation. See Streetview: https://www.instantstreetview.com/@51.48528,-0.254842,50.46h,-5.38p,1z However, I’d still argue that the signage is inadequate. These signs are a long way in front of the flyover and are close together, so if a driver is looking in the direction of one, he/she is unlikely to see the other, so they only get one chance really as they flash past. There are also width restrictions, but things are happening very quickly for drivers unfamiliar with the area as they drive round the bend at the pedestrian crossing and approach the flyover. What’s needed is prominent signage near the point of entry to the flyover. If all traffic was prohibited, we’d see two large ‘No Entry’ signs but because only certain vehicles are prohibited, no signage at all is provided at the critical point. There was a time when signage stretched across the entry point, and was supported by posts either side; but the posts supporting the sign got brought down by vehicles many times, so I guess that’s why the signage was scrapped. All that exists now at the entry point are width restricting steel bollards ready to tear your oversized vehicle up if you missed the inadequate signage prior. |
