Jim, prior to the last local elections the majority group actually agreed a policy of the Mayoralty going to a member from one of the minority parties once in every four year municipal cycle. This was in the spirit of the new arrangments for local governance. With the advent of the current majority group this was reneged on, there are quite a few Councillors from the minority groups who have given stirling service for many years who unfortunately will not get the chance to be Mayor, personally I think it's tiny minded and spiteful - but what do I know? |
