| The last time there was going to be a major refurbishment of the M4 elevated it was given a time scale of ten years to complete the job. On the back of that, some company's left the industrial area behind the fountain leisure centre rather than spend ten years dealing with the replacement of every support column. They company's made the decision to move out of London rather than loose business trying to battle with the length of the road works. As it was, only the columns under the Junction one, and the up and down ramps were replaced Surly if a tunnel was the preferred way to go, this will affect the Lionel Road stadium construction, cause a load of problems for the new residents that have moved into new developments along the great west road. The works area at the start of a tunnel bore is quite large to allow for earth removal and the earth I witnessed being removed from the GWQ site was a sandy gravely river bed type soil, I don't know how substantial that type of soil is, when tunneling under buildings. |
