Apparently late Saturday night things on the Pic went completely into meltdown. With staggeringly and continuous high levels of use*, under investment for decades (the rolling stock dates for 1973, the signalling is gothic) and demoralised staff, what did LT think would happen? What were they hoping for, that the magic tube fairy would put everything right? But is the network safe to use given the number of passengers and operating with not enough staff? Why has TFL been allowed to under-invest on the main tube network while contributing heavily to Cross Rail? It’s clear with such high ticket prices more investment should have been made earlier to the main tube network. *highest use ever of the tube (in one day) was in the first week of Dec 15 when about 4.8 million journeys were made. |
